New Developments: Aerobic Exercises Could Make It Easier to Store Fat

There have been new developments and studies that create some controversy throughout the health, diet, and exercise world. Studies have concluded that if you do exercises in what is called your "fat burning zone" you could significantly decrease the amount of fat that your body would naturally burn throughout the entire day. Recent studies as shown in the Journal of Applied Physiology had those interested to complete an hour of cycling at a little more than half of their aerobic capacity. Studies showed that the balance of fat over a 24 hour period had seriously shown more positively on the day they completed the exercises as compared to the days in which they did not.

There are lots of fitness trainers who will tell you that aerobic exercises can actually make you fatter than not exercising at all. Theories conclude that your body reacts to exercise based on its fuel type. For instance when doing high intensity exercises such as sprinting or lifting weights a person's fuel is primarily going to be carbohydrates. The body will react to this exercise that relies on carbs which then makes it simpler for your body to increase your insulin sensitivity by replacing the carbs as well as increasing the ability to store carbohydrates.

When you complete low intensity aerobic exercises such as taking a walk or even washing your dishes your primary fuel of choice is fat. This is where most trainers and fitness experts believe that using fat as the primary fuel while working out can actually signal your body to increase its ability to store fat, and there are studies that can back this such as the one found in the Journal of Applied Physiology. While your body might feel much weaker and smaller after having completed a resistance workout, it is actually doing the opposite. This means that your body is prepping for the next time that it becomes stressed.

There has been a lot of research conducted in publications such as the International Journal of Sports Nutrition which will show that when athletes complete resistance training it will begin to shift their body to begin burning more fat for up to one day after the workout has been completed which is far different from aerobics. This would go to show that resistance training is ideal. Your body fat naturally becomes regulated by a hormone known as insulin which means that the intense exercises that rely on carbs such as resistance training can help you to burn fat the entire day with ease. Resistance training can reduce your insulin levels and help to improve your metabolism for carbohydrates.

Before attempting any type of workout plan you should always talk with a medical professional first. You want to be given the clean bill of health so that you don't run the risk of worsening your health. You should also be sure to ask questions about aerobic exercises and how they might benefit or hinder your health in the long run. With any luck, your doctor will put you on a path that will have you looking and feeling great every single day.

What About E-Bikes?

Here's what. Electric bike kits are the safest and most fun way to build up your cardio health. Here is my Need to Know E-Bikes list.

* An electric bike lets you build physical strength gradually and safely, as doctors recommend, by making your pedaling easier or by letting the electric bike motor take over pedaling completely until you are ready to pedal again.
* You can buy an electric motor kit for your bike much cheaper than a new electric bicycle.
* Ride until you get tired and then flip a switch and let the electric bike motor kit take over.
* Or choose an e-bike kit that senses when you're pedaling harder and kicks in to assist and lets you gradually build up to pedaling more and relying on the motor less.
* Ride past all the other bikers at 15 mph for up to 20 miles with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Ride as far or farther than the other riders and up hills with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Ride past the auto parking lot and right up to the front door with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Ride past the gas stations with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Put a "Save The Planet" on your bike bumper with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Brag about how bicycle mechanics are much less expensive than auto mechanics with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Attach a trailer to your bike and ride to the grocery and hardware store with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Brag about the car you bought 20 year ago and have only put 40,000 miles on with a smile (or smirk) on your face.
* Brag about your new trim looking body and muscled legs with a smile (or smirk) on your face.

The most important thing to remember is that you will be getting the benefits of a regular, fun, effective exercise that builds and strengthens your body, heart, and lungs gradually with no worries about over doing it.

It becomes regular because it is fun, and the more fun an exercise is, the more likely you will do it regularly.

It's fun because you can ride for 20 miles and explore new vistas without getting so tired.

It's effective because exercising the largest muscles (leg muscles) is the most efficient way to strengthen heart and lungs.

There have been thousands of e-bikes sold in American this year and if sales continue at this pace the e-bike will one day be the premier mode of transport in the US.

How You Should Do Cardio to Lose the Most Weight

Empty Stomach versus Full Stomach

There have been research studies that show both the pros and cons of exercising on an empty stomach and if it really matters. In my opinion, doing cardio on an empty stomach versus eating a light snack about an hour before is controversial.

The theory is, if you work out on an empty stomach, you will burn more fat calories because you will not have any food in your system to burn through, therefore achieving lower body fat.

If your goal is to only worry about tapping into your fat stores then this may be an option for you. My argument is, if you are exercising on an empty stomach, are you going to have enough energy to have an intense workout, which in my opinion is more important for long term fat/weight loss.

If you are going for endurance, you most definitely do not want to do cardio on an empty stomach as it will reduce your aerobic capacity.

A clear cut answer from me would be to eat a light snack an hour before, so you can have more energy during your cardio workout but not have too much food to burn to get to your fat stores.

Cardio in the Morning Versus Late at Night

Many fitness professionals recommend that cardio be done early in the morning because of the fasting that has been done after eight hours of sleep.

Once again I think this is questionable, and it is all about personal preference. Doing cardio in the morning for some people allows them to have more energy throughout the day and facilitates a clearer mind.

Doing cardio in the evening can, for some people like myself, actually have more benefits. The nutrients that you have eaten and the water you have drunk throughout the day are in your system to be used. I personally have more energy in the evening and find that I push myself harder at night.

I am a believer that everyone has a different peak workout time and that one should figure out that time and use it to their advantage.

In my opinion it does not matter when you do cardio in the day as long as you get it done effectively.

The Speed of Your Workouts and Weight Loss

It has been taught for years that the slower your cardio exercise the better it is because it burns more calories from fat.

You must define what your goal is and what you want for the long term first before you come to any conclusions on your training style. I think that you can lose weight doing either slow, less intense exercise or fast, high intensity workouts.

One thing that I would encourage you to look at is how you want your body to look. Compare the look of athletes from different sports such as marathon running and track sprinters. You will notice the difference in how their bodies are shaped.

There is no one superior way to the other and so it is just about what your goals are and what you want to look like.

If you are going for a long lean and not as much muscle on your body look, then do long duration workouts like cardio. If you are looking for a more muscular and defined frame, then do the higher intensity and faster workouts.

My Advice for You

Try the methods that I presented to you above, test them on yourself and see how you feel, how your body changes and reacts, and the overall results that you get.

If you are getting closer to the results that you are looking for, then stick with that program and train using those techniques.

I am not a believer in there being only one way to train. I just believe there is a systematic approach you can take to fitness and then it is up to you to test those approaches to see what works best for you.

We all have different bodies so we need to find out the best ways to train ourselves.

Roller Skating Dare Devils Victor and Jenny Are "The Skating Aratas!"

Daredevil skating Duo Victor and Jenny Aratas or more commonly known as "The Skating Aratas", have been making plenty of press this past year. If you haven't already seen them, the couple perform a near death defying act to which they propel themselves in a circle wearing roller skates at breakneck speeds, add a number of intricate poses and spins totally reliant on the couple being centered in their gravity and you have the act of "The Skating Aratas!" But if you watch the show you will notice an intimacy not present in most strips acts, and that's because Victor and Jenny are in fact married! One of the more film worthy origin stories, this act has come together through love to bring you their famous spectacle of velocity week after week.

Victor coming from a 7th generation circus family, has been practicing since he was as young as 14 years old. His mother, an aerialist who concentrated on the Russian swing and the flying trapeze, spent sometimes up to 10 hours a day helping her children perfect their skills. Teaching them the basics of having to cross train and body-build as a safety precaution, and teaching Arata and his sister how to perform a similar act to the one Arata performs today on a 10 foot by 10 foot platform. Arata says of those days there was no pressure, and it was all about experimenting with what audiences liked and showing off. His mother made it an effort to help him perfect the skating routine as a safer means of entertaining and being a part of the family tradition. But the act his mother developed is far safer than what is performed now, as Arata has taken on the family love of adrenaline! His wife, jenny was born in Germany and had an extensive background as an acrobatic dancer. Before Victor would perform the act with his sister, fearing for Jennies safety, but after his sister became injured Arata found no luck trying to teach other women the complicated routine.

Soon after Jenny was incorporated into the act, and the couple have been happily performing together since. Arata embarked on the arduous process of getting his wife and newly found partner safely ready for the act. A strict and drudging routine would be required to build the core strength and muscles necessary to stay in control, after nearly 8 months of body building mania Jenny was ready. Jenny grew up in Russia with figure skating experience, so naturally she took to roller skates with ease. The next task was helping her keep her composure during the rapid spinning, not as easy as it sounds! But with Victor guiding her, they finally developed the act after 3 years! (better safe than sorry!) With the whole new element of having to ensure his wife's safety, there is a certain element of risk both physically and emotionally that make this act so compelling to watch! So you cant miss out on the sensation one more minute, pick up your tickets to V-The Ultimate Variety Show today, and see the famous "Skating Aratas" in action with your own eyes!

Son of Man TV Play by Dennis Potter

In this controversial play, Jesus is portrayed as a hearty, fiery, well-meaning carpenter who believes that people should try to love their enemies rather than fight all the time, but who is afraid of the consequences of his ministry.

It was broadcast by the BBC in 1969 starring Colin Blakely as Jesus, Robert Hardy as Pontius Pilate, Bernard Hepton as Caiaphas, and Brian Blessed as Peter.

We see a Jesus not seen before: someone with a sense of humour with a ready laughter at the social incongruity of his position and a sense of the ludicrous foolishness around him. Also graphically displayed is his uncertainty, anger, and fear.

At the start, we see Roman soldiers putting to the sword those Jews who proclaim 'the son of the blessed one', a religious leader they call the Messiah, coming to overturn Roman rule.

Then the scene switches to Jesus alone in the desert, in a state of anguish asking

'Is it me'? Is it me? The devil speaks and I shall not listen'.

And some might assume Jesus is asking whether it is he who is to lead an uprising and consequently himself suffer from Roman brutality. Later on, before his procession into Jerusalem, he shouts out loud, "I am the Messiah".

But we might wonder about what being a Messiah meant to him? Perhaps instead of leading an uprising he is asking whether it is he who is being sent by God to preach a radical message about loving one's enemy; to gain a following of disciples; and by subverting the status of the ruling religious class to suffer cruel punishment. He is later told "They'll nail you up upon a cross if you put a foot wrong."

When in a crowd we find Jesus asking "What is so extraordinary about holding the hand of your brother and sister," and the people laugh as he remarks that even the tax collector has learned how to love his own brother. But the joke quickly turns to a challenge.

"Do you want me to congratulate you - for loving only those who love you?"

We hear indignant voices as, in the words of the playwright, Jesus proclaims,

"Love your enemy, love those who hate you, love those who would destroy you, love the man who would tick you and spit at you, love the soldier who drives his sword in your belly."

"You cannot love God and hate your fellow man."

And when Pilate's wife asks,

"Love your enemies - what does that mean?"

We hear the centurion say, amid derision,

"It simply means the man's a lunatic!"

Said by some to be a non-Christian portrayal of the Christian story, the play is ambivalent as to who Jesus actually was. We hear him say, "Who am I?" and we wonder exactly what was his relationship with God?

I find the traditional Christian explanations of Father and Son as two divine individuals (who along with the Holy Spirit are somehow one God) as irrational and unappealing.

Instead, I would like to suggest that Jesus was both man and God: he was man as to his conscious thought, and bodily desires, needs and sensations: and being a man he was vulnerable to all human weakness and frailty to which we are all inclined. But, according to this view, also being inwardly God, his soul was divine and this meant he had the divine goodness, wisdom and power of his inner self to resist all selfish desires and impure thoughts.

The play works wonderfully well for me because it brings out what might be called the natural side of God. Jesus' life's mission was a struggle, with real pain and anguish. I would argue that while being tempted to save himself he did not feel himself to be divine. He prayed often to God as a being apart from himself for strength and courage. But each time the battle was over and the selfish and cowardly voices resisted, a little of the mortal side of him died - the mortal side inherited from Mary - and he felt once again that the Father and he were one.

This is why I like the notion of a virgin birth. I can't explain it biologically, but it makes sense for me to think that Jesus' father was God whereas his mother was Mary of Nazareth. Jesus was to grow up as a normal human being. As he grew spiritually, was God not replacing, bit by bit, all that was finite and imperfect in him, which he derived from his mother? If so this would mean an eventual changeover to all that was infinite and perfect so by the time of his death he was entirely divine.

Brian Kingslake illustrates this in terms of the building of a house.

"Scaffold poles are first erected. Sometimes these rough poles are set up all around the site, and passers-by might even mistake them for the intended building! But when all is completed, the scaffolding poles are removed, and there stands a beautiful stone edifice. In the case of Jesus, the parts of his nature which he inherited from Mary were like the scaffold poles, whereas the parts he inherited from his Father were the stones. The scaffold poles ensure that the stones are placed in the right position, they are afterwards removed. So, the parts from Mary enabled God to form his Divine-Human, but they were eventually discarded."

Risk Factors That Involve Wearing of Improper Dance Shoes

Some dance-related injuries are caused by wearing improper footwear. In fact, some foot problems can be genetically inherited like for those individuals who have been diagnosed with a foot problem. Children will inherit this common foot problem and this is where early prevention and awareness would matter the most. Good thing medical researchers have figured out that by providing corrective support to kids taking dance lessons, it can improve their foot development on a mature level. The typical size of feet for children is 1-3, and this can grow within a year.

Although finding the right dance shoe can be expensive and difficult, it is still a worthy investment as it can prevent the onset of worse foot problems as children grow. Similar to adults, shoes that are loose or too tight can cause ingrown toenails, calluses and hammertoes. A worse case can be experienced by wearing footwear that has no support such an instance can lead to ankle, knee, back or hip injuries. This only goes to show that extreme importance of choosing the right pair of shoes appropriate for one's age, size and shape.

Medical experts would agree that prevention is the primary key to avoid dance injuries and other risk factors. Before dance lessons start, it is advisable for parents to ask recommendations from dance trainers or physicians regarding which dance shoes fit their children's feet. Most likely they would recommend having the child's feet measures prior to making a decision upon the shoe size. The feet's width and length are of equal importance to be considered when buying a shoe so as not to squeeze the child's toes together that may cause pain. In order to get the most accurate measurement, there should be a thumb width between the end of the shoe and the largest toe to make some space for toe movements. Parents should also make sure that their kid's heel does not slide out when doing a test walk around the shoe store. Also, avoid buying shoes made from plastic materials as these items do not allow proper ventilation when wore. Thus, this allows fungus to build, causing foul odors from the feet and fungal infection. It is this reason that most experts advice parents to choose leather, canvas and shoes made with breathable materials for their kids. If the shoe causes pain to the user, don't buy them and continue shopping around.

Fortunately, a lot of dance shoes manufacturers are aware of these dance injuries that can be caused by using footwear that does not fit a person's size. Most of these foot problems have long-term effects because children may inherit it.

Choose those dance shoes that can totally support the weight and movements of the user, breathable and those with back strap if possible to ensure kid's safety and comfort. If the kid experiences pain after wearing dance shoes in a few days, better consult to a physician for early prevention of worse foot problems or injuries they might get from dancing while wearing an uncomfortable shoe.

Disney Casting Directors Seek Out Both Established and New Talent

There are two types of casting directors that audition actors for Disney. The first type are called "in-house" casting executives. The VP of Casting and Talent Relations for Disney Channel is an example of an in-house casting director who usually auditions established actors for series regular roles or starring roles for Disney Channel Original Movies. On the other hand there are many freelance casting directors who have cast countless Disney Channel shows, as well as other shows on different networks. These freelance casting directors also audition established talent for series regulars and starring roles, however they do bring in newcomers to read for roles if they fit the look that is being sought for a specific role.

Newcomers are much more likely to be cast in supporting or recurring roles as opposed to starring or series regulars, but from time to time an actor with minimal credits does land that coveted top level role. And it is happening more and more frequently as studios vie to discover that fresh new face. However, any type of casting director will tell you that finding talented actors with little experience can be a daunting task. Disney Channel conducts open casting calls around the United States a couple of times each year for non-specific roles, and out of the thousands who show up, only one or two actually make it onto the air. Another example is when Walt Disney Studios held open calls at many cities during the talent search for the role of Mattie Ross in the 2010 film "True Grit". In the end, they hired an actress who had professional credits, training, and a talent agent who submitted her for the role in Los Angeles.

The most important thing that casting directors look for on an actors resume is live theatre. Doing plays in youth theatre groups, community theatre, and summer acting camps is not only extremely fun, but is also an incredible learning experience. You do not get the opportunity to do multiple takes for each scene, rather you must nail your lines dead on in real-time. And the more experience that talent has doing that, means less takes for each scene when working on a movie or television show.

Training is also important, especially with reputable acting teachers and coaches. In the big markets such as Los Angeles and New York, there is an abundance of great acting teachers, many of which are well connected in the entertainmenbt industry. Often these mentors will bring in casting directors or talent agents to watch their students perform scenes. Specialized training such as singing and dancing is also a great thing to have on your resume.

Your Ministry's Foundational Scripture

According to Webster's Dictionary the definition of foundation is something that gives a support base to a structure and is built to last. A foundation lays the groundwork for what is to come. Therefore, it is important that a foundational scripture is established, because it will set the entire structure, groundwork and direction for your ministry. God gave me the foundational scripture of, (Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2) God wants their mind, soul and spirit to be transformed which will automatically take care of the outer man. This transformation will cause them to discover the greatness He has purposed for them as it relates to dance. Knowing the scripture God has assigned to your ministry will set God's plan in motion. This will assist you with developing a strong vision, mission and purpose statement. Anything that is birthed out of your ministry will should relate directly to your foundational scripture.

In your foundation, God makes his position known as the head. This takes the attention off of you or any of your members and places it on God. This will make all who come conform to the vision and not allow them to create their own. Sometimes, people come with the wrong motives. They may be seeking position, power, notoriety and more. All of these things come from their own desires and not God's. Well, keeping the foundation in the forefront stops anyone who has wrong motives from causing problems. God is a God of order and will always give a set of requirements to ensure that he is the focus so that His people will be reached. You ministry is a spiritual home for your members and without a strong foundation a home will not stand. The strength of it begins with you as well as the confidence and trust you place in God. As more and more people come, they should step into a set of patterns, rules, principles and a regimen that is firm.

Again, if you have not established your foundational scripture you will need to pray and ask God to reveal it to you. This will help you to know exactly what God wants accomplished. You will need to study it, break it down, look up words that you don't understand, and memorize it because it is the key to the life of your ministry. Have your dancers do the following to ensure that they understand the purpose of your foundational scripture:

If you don't have one, pray and ask God to reveal it to you.Once it has been revealed, have your members as well as you memorize it.Have your dancers write a one page essay on what the scripture means to them individually as well as to the ministry.Break the scripture down and research other scripture that relates to it.Write a vision statement based on this scripture and have your members memorize this as well.

Remember God always has an order to everything He establishes. God Bless!

Does your ministry have a foundational scripture? If not, you need to pray and ask God to reveal it to you. You must understand your foundation in order to know where you are going!

Is LED Lighting Taking Over the World?

I recently saw a popular country star's arena show, and in the rig I couldn't see one incandescent light. I couldn't be completely sure, but as I reached the backstage dimmer area, I found out that indeed that there were a couple conventional lights, and 1 small dimmer rack. Probably less dimming than most church readers of this website have in their rooms, for a big arena rig supporting a major country artist. Just a few years ago, we were still working with major lighting systems in the 100s of dimmers for this artist.

This may bring you to wonder, "Is this the end of dimming and conventional lighting?"

You've probably seen the advertising for LED lighting fixtures all over the place. $100 pars with 16 million colors that doesn't require a dimmer. If you're looking to buy, it seems like the end of dimmers is here, but is it?

Despite all of the hype certain marketers have built, the end is not here for dimmers, at least not yet! The technology is still new, and it is not perfected yet. While these fixtures may look great out of the box, that can change quickly. 6 months down the road, it may really not be what you were led to believe, as the LED's may start fading or changing tint.

So are LED's taking over the world and dimmers disappearing?

Yes, but not yet. I wrote above about the marketing hype that leads people to believe they can replace their conventional lighting with LED's for no cost above the cost of new conventional lights and dimming. While there isn't yet a cheap replacement for flesh tone conventional light with LED's, that era is coming soon. The main reasons for this is poor CRI, or color rendering index, and choppy dimming. Cheap LED lights just don't yet look good enough to our eyes. However, a few professional stage lighting companies are coming out with LED fixtures in the $1000 price range that defy the odds and are good enough for the camera.

This is where life gets exciting. If you are reading this a few years after 2013, you'll probably be laughing because these fixtures will be available for just a few hundred dollars. The technology curve is moving so fast, and it is very exciting!

In the mean time, you can still change all of your colored lighting with LED's, and it is much more cost effective in the long run. This is because LED lighting is additive color mixing. Deep colors are made by just turning the light just on a little, instead of using a gel and turning the light up to full just to get it to cut through a wash and new products have great color output. This saves the frequent cost of replacing gel as well as the power used by the light and the heat it generates. Plus, your performers will love the reduction in heat on your stage!

The best way to teach children to dance

A lesson in dance seems to be an exciting activity for the children and parents. Dancing helps children cultivate positive self image and teach them the self-confidence, self-discipline, grace and assurance. Dance, this is a good activity for children and parents together. Teach children to dance is a particular challenge for beginners. Here are some tips that you can use

Selection of good music that fits the age group for your child is an important factor to consider before engaging your children to dance. There are songs for children that can be used for children young and some pop music for older children. You must select a table of songs with different rhythm and moods for different age group.

Try to start their dance class with home warm ups. Tell them to exercise and move their bodies to emulate objects. This can be a good warm-up activity. After the warm-up, you can start a business that will encourage them to move. Let them run, jump and jump to their heart rate.

Put on a rhythmic music that will encourage them to move and perform the basics of dance. They need to acquire basic skills before they are able to make complicated dance steps. Challenge them to follow several movements such as size of bending, two steps to the left and to the right and turn around. Children who are young will have difficulty performing these tasks, should teach how them to do it slowly so that they can follow who you ask of them. Remember do not make steps too hard or too easy for them. There should be a balance when teaching children so that you can encourage to try and follow the steps that you ask them. Children do not follow when you perform difficult step for them while making it too easy, the children get bored.

When you are teaching children to dance, don't forget that they cannot stay in the same place too long, or they can focus on one thing. Why not use this to your advantage? You can take them across the room, couple dance and face the mirror. In other words, use the entire piece for your dance lessons.

Fun at your dance session classes. Try to incorporate games to your steps to not get bored. Dance movements will give each child a sense of joy and at the same time, you give them a challenge for them to learn more about themselves and others.

Finding the Appropriate Dance Apparel for Beginners

Dancing, as many would describe it, is a form of art. Whether it's ballet, tap dance, hip-hop, or jazz, dancing revolves around emotions and the expression of thought. It is said that a dancer tells a story and conveys emotions with movement just as much as a writer does with words. It is an art that connects people through body movement, style, and flexibility. While the motions or dance moves important, the way a dancer presents himself to the audience also cannot be overlooked. It is for this reason that part of any dancer's preparation regardless of the genre is finding the right dancewear.

When searching for the right dancewear, comfort should be the top consideration. While different styles of dance require different types of apparel, the important thing is that the dancer not only looks good in the outfit but also feels comfortable enough to be able to perform well and properly execute movements on the dance floor. There are styles of dance that involve a lot of motion, which means the dancer's costume must be light and comfortable yet able to withstand even the most rigorous of dance moves. The clothes a dancer wears must stay in place during the routine, unless the routine calls for creative costume changes in the middle of the performance. It is important that the dancewear is suited for the type of dance the same way a dress is suited for a particular occasion. Also, what a dancer wears says a lot about the individual. It creates an impression that can affect the audience's perception of the entire dance routine. Wearing the right apparel also helps boost a dancer's confidence, which will definitely be reflected in the individual's performance.

Just as with most other occasions, making a decision regarding what to wear can take a lot of time and preparation. There are a number of things that need to be considered when choosing the appropriate dancewear. The first and perhaps the most obvious consideration is knowing what types of costumes or apparel are designed for which dance genre. For example, leotards, tutus, and ballet shoes were made to accentuate the ballet dancer's grace and poise. Tutus and other ballet apparel are traditionally not worn in other types of dance such as modern dance or tap dancing. In line with that same logic, tap shoes cannot be worn by a ballerina.

It is also important for dancewear to suit an individual's body type. It should be able to draw attention to the dancer's movements. Also, the dancewear be of the right size. No dancer would want to trip on stage because his pants were too long, or his shoes were too big. There is also the risk of wardrobe malfunction if the dancewear is of the wrong size. If dancing with a partner, wearing matching outfits may also add to the performance's appeal to the audience.

Regardless of the genre, putting on the right dancewear can be the difference between an outstanding and a lackluster performance.

All Dance and Music Studios Are Not the Same

There are many options to choose from when looking for a dance studio for children in Arizona, although proximity is not necessarily the best way to choose a place for your child to learn to dance. You should look for a studio, that is continually improving their classes, instructors and facilities.

Qualities of a Good Dance Studio

If your son or daughter is interested in taking dance lessons, here are a few things to be on the lookout for:

1) Some dance studios are commercial in nature, or their focus is more on fun and recreation. Class sizes at these types of studios are typically large and their focus is solely on the annual recital. However, if you want your child to learn proper technique and receive quality instruction, you should seek out a professional dance studio with smaller classes and qualified instructors.

2) So, let's talk about class size. The fewer students in your child's dance class, the more individual attention your child will receive. A teacher can better manage and maintain control over a smaller class. Every dancer in a dance class deserves proper instruction and if he or she has a question, or need additional help, it's important that the dance teacher is available to give that one-on-one attention.

3) Let's face it, all dance studios aren't alike and neither are the dance instructors. Your child's dance instructor will make or break the success and the attitude of their students. Bad habits learned at a young age can be hard to break. Injuries can happen if proper technique isn't taught and motivation of students can drop off if the dance teacher doesn't know how to work with his or her students.

4) A good dance studio is built from the ground up, and that includes the dance floor! Dancing on the wrong type of floor can cause undue stress on bones and joints, especially for ballet dancers doing leaps and jumps. A professional dance floor is one that's well-cushioned to absorb the shock of jumping. If the studio you're looking at has a concrete floor - just walk out!

Your dance studio should always be providing their students and parents with the best experience possible. Finding a dance studio that is dedicated to quality performing arts education with a commitment to developing confidence and self-esteem for students of all ages is a win-win for you and your child.

The "New Burlesque" Fad Hits Las Vegas!

Ever Since the Minksy Brothers opened their famed Club in downtown New York City for the working class immigrant, the traditional burlesque show has evolved substantially. It's safe to say we have come a long way as a society, and the Burlesque type show is a long way from ever again being raided for indecency like in the early 1900's, (no Mayor Laguardia is not around anymore). But like prohibition and world wars, it's all in the history books now and the result is a courageous piece of western culture that still stands the test of time today. Things began to lighten up in the late 40's, as film after film began to debut depicting the Burlesque culture for what it really was. As the genre's popularity continued to grow, burlesque shows began to pop up all over the country again, and they weren't being protested by church's or hounded by city officials either! But as time dragged on, the 70's and 80's again proved a drag on the culture as it was increasingly being seen as "Outdated" and "Corny".

In the 1990's the genre was given a rebirth, as a burlesque legend started the Miss Exotic World Pageant which is now one of the biggest events of the genre. Soon after, This world famous pageant after 21 years was relocated in the heart of Las Vegas. A fitting choice when you consider Las Vegas' contribution to the burlesque culture. But it's not all about the risqué numbers and beautiful women with nothing to hide, there is a subtle tone behind the Burlesque genre few can pull off. Quirky use of props, lots of satire and comedy as well as the attitude of an 1850's opera house. It can all easily be defined as a form of "rebellious theater" from back in the day, and our culture wouldn't be the same without those mean girls with the moves! Obviously a result of a far more conservative culture, these women who risked everything to put on a show, had to have a little attitude if they wanted to make it all work. Now the future of Burlesque is more certain than ever as "New Burlesque" is widely accepted across the world.

Today the modern Burlesque show takes on a form that is familiar but also very new. With the use of Avant Garde performing arts as well as satirical comedy these performances now have a feel that is totally unique. While you still get to see the beautiful women, it's not as bad as it used to be (it might even be better!). You still get the revealing costumes, but now different era's of burlesque costumes can be showcased giving you a real sense of history on top of it all. With all the influence the burlesque culture has had on America, some may even speculate that same attitude was what Vegas became built around, but that's for you to decide. So whether you are a local to Las Vegas, or plan on coming to town soon, don't forget to check out an old, old, old school genre with a modern twist at Saxe Theaters' own "iCandy Burlesque The Show"!

Where Did All the Magic Go? It's Always Been There, But Often Overlooked By Corporations

In the world of show-biz, we could be right to associate Magic with the likes of Los Vegas, Television Shows, a Television series, and even the children's suburban birthday parties. There's probably not to many people out there that aren't 'mystified by Magicians and their 'magic'. Watching a Magician can take us out of our 'reality world' and put us on 'another' planet from a few minutes to a few hours. And there's probably one thing we're ALL doing when being mystified by these gifted artists is "How Do/Did They Do It"?

But if you think about it, that same question can be asked by a multitude of the population when they read news stories about corporate companies who have been successful in a particular product launch, invention, unique strategy, or recognized for great service and other achievements that can be beneficial to millions. And then, on the other side of the coin, the very same question can be asked when companies take a walk on the 'dark side', ie, hacking, fraud, deceit or just being plain rotten eggs! How Do/Did They Do It? (Or get away with it?)

Regardless of whether a corporate's intentions are good or bad, it could very well be assimilated with their Special Brand of Magic, which could then be watered down to whether it was 'White' or 'Black Magic'! Nonetheless, it's hard to argue that every business large or small is performing their special brand of 'magic' which we all hope and generally perceive as being good for all.

So where does the Magic that's performed by genuine practicing magicians and Business/Corporate come into the equation? Or perhaps another way of putting it is "When was the last time you went to a business or corporate function and, for a part of the time whilst there, you were entertained, dazzled, mystified and simply stunned by a 'top-notch' magician"? Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never? I think, for the majority of those attendees at those Business/Corporate events the answers would fall into the latter 2 categories... Rarely or Never! So why? Have corporate event organizers forgotten (or for that matter) not realized the power of hosting a Magician come performer and entertainer as part of their event over other entertainment acts/performers?

It really doesn't matter what a Business or Corporate organize as part of a special occasion event, (ie, Birthday, Christmas, Product/Service Launch, Retirement Party, Trade show, etc, etc, etc) a great Magical Performer can just about ALWAYS fit into the theme of an event. When a magician hits center 'stage' at an event, I'll bet that everyone stops chatting among themselves, puts off going to the bathroom, suddenly interrupts that out of office negotiation, stops eyeing off that pretty new office girl (or guy), and begin to have fits of laughter and/or release huge sounds of intrigue! One thing's for sure... ALL eyes are glued to the Magical Moment! I mean who is going to miss out on trying to work out How Did/Does he do it? Who is going to miss out on being taken to that other 'planet' of mystery and illusion for a minutes? The answer is probably, no one!

Magic is one of the rare performances that can take us to the unknown. It has the ability to captivate us more than almost anything known to man. It can make us laugh, be horrified, shocked, amazed, stunned and even momentarily mentally paralyzed all within seconds of each other. Many I'm sure hold Magicians who are also great performers and entertainers in absolute awe. They are a special breed all on their own

But there is ONE catch! If the Magician's acts 'suck', has a personality like a brick, or is about as worse an actor as you've ever seen, then the statements made in the last 2 paragraphs just got thrown out the window! So whilst a Magician can be a VERY powerful addition to virtually any Corporate event, commonsense of course prevails when the time comes to choosing a Magician that everyone will talk about for months and years ahead after the event! Of course, check out things like:

• The type of past events performed at?

• Companies they've performed for?

• What was the audience feedback?

• Times invited back to the same company?

• Videos of performances

• Type of acts performed?

• Personal references?

Naturally, cost is important, but a good Magician is worth paying a little more for, for obvious reasons. An event organizer, whether they be the professional outfit specializing in this industry, or the office secretary who's been entrusted with pulling a special event together, a good Magician is certainly worthy of serious consideration because, regardless of a Business's or Corporate's own "special magic" all can embrace the great 'white' magic when planning their event!...

According to him starring in a resident show on the Strip is a lifelong dream come true, and it shows in how seriously he takes his seemingly unserious portrayal of The Evil Deads' most memorable character.

With all the campiness abound, tons of fake blood and that adorable possessed moose head, it wouldn't be The Evil Dead without Ash. Dramatic poses and random waves of madness, the action hero personifies what makes the trilogy appealing to so many die-hard fans. It's not like fan boys are easy to please either, even the most knowledgeable and picky of movie aficionados love Stobbers' portrayal of Ash, right down to his delivery of the dialogue that Bruce Campbell is so famous for. Ben Stobber even mastered the Legendary Ash eyebrow. With shows now at the V theater every weekend the popularity of Evil Dead The Musical 4D continues to grow for obvious reasons, as fans and newbie's alike relive the bloodiest night in the woods ever. Whether you're an Ash Williams and Evil Dead fan, or just looking for a fun and different musical that bravely forays into unfamiliar territory, come see Ben Stobber and the master eyebrow along with the rest of the awesome cast of Evil Dead The Musical 4d to watch them kick some zombie butt this weekend! You can pick up tickets and catch the show every Friday and Saturday night at the V Theater, located inside the Miracle Mile Shops of Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Practical Solutions PART 3

During my first few years of teaching as director of the Method Actors' Training Centre In Pretoria, South Africa, I stuck to how the classes were handled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York during my time there (1981 - 1984).

What I did do differently, however, was to do year-end shows with my students. We either did a few existing short plays chosen around a theme or created original workshop productions based on improvisation as an ensemble, starting rehearsals in August and usually performing at the end of November or beginning of December. I believed very strongly that it would be pointless for students to study acting and learn how to apply Method acting techniques to scene work if the actors did not have the opportunity toperform in front of an audience at some point also. Actors need to learn how to solve both acting and technical problems under pressure, under the lights and while being watched by both strangers and loved ones. The stress and pressure you are under when performing for an audience is completely different to working in front of peers you know well within a class set-up and students must gain that experience and professionalism if they wish to enter into the industry as paid actors.

It soon became apparent, however, that my students were absolutely useless duringblocking rehearsals! They didn't have a clue how to behave on a stage; stumbling about, masking and blocking themselves and their fellow actors, not knowing what to do with their hands and feet, moving around like wooden dolls, placing set furnishings in ways that did not work at all and often behaving illogically and with a lack of awareness with regard to how to tell the story visually and theatrically. Not only that - they presented with major problems when it came to voice reproduction, of which the worst was that they could not be heard and that diction and articulation, in general, was extremely poor. I had been aware of these issues while watching scene work in class, of course, but since these weaknesses were paid no mind during my training I didn't concern myself with it either.

Once you're designing a set, telling a story, blocking a scene (requiring actors to do daily activities with an awareness of stage craft) and getting actors to move effectively for public performance to a paying audience, however, attention must be paid to the age-old theatrical conventions, whether we like it or not! While I do not subscribe to slavishly following each and every "rule" to the exclusion of real action and honest behavior, I do believe we should strive to honor the most basic aspects by making them our own and eventually executing them so naturally that they are not noticed at all. We should at least know the "rules" in order to break them effectively and towards a specific purpose should we feel so inclined.

The fact that actors must possess a strong, resonant voice with good tone which can be heard at the back of the theatre, that diction should be clear and that the characters' thoughts and feelings should be meaningfully expressed is non-negotiable, as far as I'm concerned. The mumbling, inexpressive voice of the cliché Method actor who can barely be heard in the first row (even in the movie theatre!) is something many have complained about throughout the years and I was not going to allow this to be the case with my students.

So... I started adding voice classes and workshops in "non-method" aspects, not only because I needed my students to behave more professionally during rehearsals for the year-end shows but also because I required them to do more theatrically effective scene work in class - even if the main focus is teaching them how to apply relaxation, sense memory, emotional memory, animal work, etc. in practice. Surely this does not exclude working correctly with regard to wider performance and theatrical aspects and actually being heard by the audience (whether in theatre or film) also?

It helps to have a common language with directors and actors in the wider industry, for instance, since this makes communication and working together easier and would make the novice feel much more comfortable in professional company.

Actors and directors and stage managers need to know where "Prompt side" is and what "OP" means, that the stage is divided into 15 units, what these positions are called, where Centre or Down Right Centre or Up Left Centre, etc. would be, and where the most effective playing areas are (in case you wish to use them), how to write stage directions or notations in a text. It would make life easier to know that XDRC, pause, XUSC, outmeans: crosses down right centre, pauses, crosses upstage centre and exits, if the stage manager is absent and you've been asked to help out by giving fellow actors notes from the script.

Here follow a few simple suggestions based on Jean Lee Latham's Do's and Don'ts of Drama that my students and I have found helpful over the years, giving their performances a more "polished" and professional feel without taking away from the realness and honesty of their responses and emotions. The individual will choose whether to disregard or use them:

STAGE SETTING

1. Don't place furniture so it hides an important entrance/exit.

2. Keep the stage balanced by placing furniture left and right of centre, not on one side only.

3. Give the stage setting depth by placing furniture upstage and downstage.

4. Guard against the monotony of straight lines when placing furniture.

5. See to it that one piece of large furniture does not block the view from another piece, such as a sofa, where important action is to occur. The audience must see the action.

6. Place furniture around which important action is to occur, within effective playing areas.

7. Place a chair in which an important scene is to occur where all audience members can see the occupant.

8. Do not place furniture in such a way that actors upstage themselves when doing activities.

9. Don't place furniture in the main playing areas so far upstage or downstage that the actors are forced to play behind it (DS) or - if placed US - the stage looks top-heavy and the actors find it hard to dominate the audience.

EFFECTIVE STAGING: ENTRANCES & EXITS

1. First rule in staging an entrance: Clear the doorway of other actors for entrances and exits so the audience may have an unobstructed view of the character entering.

2. Give him/her room to walk into the scene so s/he is not stuck at the door or against a wall.

3. Minor characters should not obstruct the view with regard to major characters and/or important action.

4. The more important character should have a position US of the other, where s/he can dominate the scene/face the audience.

5. When a major character enters to join a group, use motivated movement to get non-essential characters out of the way so s/he can walk into the scene and address the other major character(s) with ease.

BLOCKING: KEEPING THE STAGE BALANCED

1. The importance of a character has as much weight as the number of characters. In other words, one major character is as important as several minor characters and may therefore be placed separately without the stage becoming unbalanced.

2. Use the whole stage and different levels - standing, sitting etc. - when blocking.

3. Variety in blocking is very important. Vary moving your character(s) or placing the action DSC to RC to DSL etc., when blocking scenes played one after the other.

4. Do not simply move characters up and down and left and right in straight lines - move them US and DS, SR and SL in straight as well as diagonal lines. Mix it up.

5. Keep the following in mind:

(a) keep the stage balanced - do not place all or most of your characters or action in one area only, leaving the rest of the stage empty for long periods of time

(b) give the main character place of prominence (if relevant)

(c) don't allow one character to mask or block another

(d) don't allow your characters to upstage themselves when involved in an important scene or action

(e) keep the main characters in the effective playing areas or where the action can be clearly seen

(f) always use a direct route from one position to another on the stage unless there is a definite reason for doing otherwise (the character is dawdling, unsure or playing for time)

STAGE TECHNIQUE

1. When holding a gun/glass/newspaper etc., use your US hand. Tip: In rehearsal, move your script to your DS hand, which will force you to use the US hand for activities etc.

2. When you start walking, make the first step with your US foot. You do not want to block your body or cross yourself with your first step - keep an open position.

3. A seated character should not cross the DS leg over the US leg since this blocks the body. Keep the body open towards the audience by crossing the legs the other way around.

4. Always position a character watching action off-stage (looking out of a window/door etc.) in profile rather than with the back to the audience. Profile gives the opportunity to view facial expressions and hear dialogue.

5. Dialogue can frequently not be heard when an actor faces US and away from the audience, unless s/he has a very strong voice. Weaker voices should always face toward the audience in order to be heard.

6. Playing with your back to the audience can be very effective, but this choice must be made with caution and for very specific reasons.

7. Two or more actors should not walk next to or directly behind each other on stage unless specifically required for effect. Rather let one walk slightly behind and to the side of the other when exiting together or changing on-stage positions in order that the audience may still see both characters clearly.

8. Try not to have two characters walking to different positions on-stage together or crossing [X] each other. Let one character move and once s/he gets to the required position let the other character move.

TELLING YOUR STORY VISUALLY

Always look for ways to bring meaning and/or subtext across visually, through placement on-stage and/or action and activities and not only through what characters are saying. Do this with subtlety and insight with regard to a character's intent, motivation, what is really meant underneath what is being verbally stated, etc. Don't hit the audience over the head with a sledgehammer though! Some examples:

Friendly Scenes: Place the characters closer to each other for greater intimacy. Distance may be better suited to broad comedy or the highly dramatic or hostility, depending on how it is handled.

Dramatic Clash: Don't place minor characters in-between the two majors during a conflict scene - get them out of the way in order that the characters in conflict may communicate and play off each other without difficulty.

Tension between characters: Consider putting distance between them or having them turn their bodies away from each other or try out "closed" body language (arms crossing over the chest), etc. Daily activities can also be very expressive so pick these carefully and look at how different meanings can be expressed through how the activities are executed.

VOICE

Voice work forms part of my Method Course. The students have to attend weekly one-hour Voice classes in order to develop this all-important part of the actor's instrument. Since honest expressiveness is essential I work according to Kristin Linklater's techniques with regard toFreeing the Natural Voice.

I train my actors to attain physical relaxation; release of the breathing centre and speech channel, correct breath and voice placement; strong resonance; rich, full voice tone; effective voice projection and volume as well as clear articulation / diction and truthful verbal expression of thought and feeling.

Developing effective voices remains a frustrating struggle since students don't do the required work at home in order to fully develop their voices as instruments. They stubbornly believe they can get away with doing the minimum, as most students do, and we pay the price when performing the year-end show every time. Lack of volume, thin voice tone, weak resonance and woolly diction have haunted me for the past twenty-two years. Even so, I keep hoping that my actors are doing better in the Voice department than they would have if I had not spent the time trying to develop effective verbal instruments at all. I like to believe they are!

My Top Three Broadway Shows

The Broadway Theater District is an area in downtown Manhattan consisting of 40 professional theaters. It grew organically during the early 1900s, when theater companies slowly moved into the area. The center of Broadway is the fast paced, brightly illuminated hub known as Times Square. Visitors to New York City will have a great time in the Broadway district, regardless of whether they watch a show or not. If you do decide to watch a show, here are my top three picks.

1. Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz

Hands down, the best theatrical experience I've had was watching Wicked. Not just the best Broadway show, perhaps the best performance art show I've seen. Based off of the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked offers a different perspective to the Wizard of Oz. Set in the same universe, with an overlapping timeline, Wicked tells the story from the perspective of the Witches. Its main protagonist is Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. But is she really wicked? Or was she just misunderstood?

Entertainment Weekly named Wicked the Best Musical of the Decade. Wicked has also won the Tony Awards for Best Musical, Original Score, Choreography, Costume Design, and countless others. It has been nominated for over 63 awards. If no other particular musical appeals to you, I highly recommend you watch Wicked.

2. Phantom of the Opera

Having debuted in 1988, Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history. It has been performed more than 10 thousand times on Broadway alone. It has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide. It's also the most commercially successful show in Broadway history.

The musical is based off of the 1910 French novel written by Gaston Leroux. The plot follows a disfigured man who haunts an opera house. He's a musical genius who extorts the opera company for money and a seat to every show. The phantom becomes obsessed with a young member of the opera, Christine Daae, who he helps by training.

3. Lion King

Lion King is based off of the 1994 Disney animated film by the same name. The music, composed by Sir Elton John, is outstanding. The costume and choreography offers an amazing experience to audience members. The story follows a young lion cub's journey to become king of his pride. The range of emotions will have you laughing and crying.

Lion King debuted in 1997, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has grossed over $850 million in ticket sales.

More Broadway Shows

These were my top picks, but there are many other fantastic New York Broadway shows to select from. For more shows, see New York Broadway. If you're planning on exploring New York City, be sure to check out What To Do in New York, a visitor's guide that mixes history with popular attractions.

Six tips to improve your acting

There is a famous Chinese saying: "glory of three minutes on stage, the hard work of ten years off the stage." This adage is basically any profession, singers, actors and athletes. As the public, we see that the results and not the hard work. It takes minutes to become an actor without success, but the years to become a success. Fortunately, here are six quick tips to enhance your talents as an actor.

1. Know your lines.Although this seems obvious, it is a common mistake among enthusiasts. Singers aren't good singers if they cannot remember their words. The players are not good if they don't remember their lines. Only when you are confident with your lines can concentrate on acting techniques. Memorization of the lines is not enough. You should know your lines upside down, so you do not look as you read from a script.

2 Participate in filming projects. Search creation as Wong Fu Productions studios and see if they need extras. This is an excellent opportunity to become friends with people who have the same interests as you and the gain in quality of experience along the way!

3 Open to your comments. What does not kill you make you stronger. Your comments can hurt, but will cost you nothing. Respect and accept your comments. Do not take it personally. Nobody is there to ruin... which is that once you are in the movie!

4 Out of your comfort zone. Acting is not something that a shy person can do unless the individual is ready to get out of his comfort zone. When I was in elementary school my tutor sent me right to audition for a role in the school play. I have no idea what was to me, but I sang the part up and strong with pride. I saw my music teacher, nodding... I got the part.

5 Remain in character more time than you have to. Mr. Pricklepants Toy Story seconds it! Staying in character allows to think and breathe in the skin of your character. This helps your action becomes more natural. And you can see when you go further.

6. Take a class acting trust professionals. They have been in this industry and can give useful advice. If you are not sure where to start or worried about the class conflicts with the schedule you, see Vimbly for a list of classes in New York, you can book on the spot.

Most importantly - start! Only search will make you a better actor!
